As Crop Over 2022 approaches, the National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA) is encouraging persons to “Know Their Limit”, as they enjoy the festivities.
A team from the NCSA went into some St. Michael communities on July 1, for a Community Drive Through to mark World Drug Day 2022.
The drive also formed part of the outreach effort to share drug education tips about the dangers of legal and illegal drugs and drinking excessively, particularly during the upcoming Crop Over season.
Speaking during the Community Drive, Deputy Manager at the NCSA, Troy Wickham, described the exercise as being timely, as the agency continues to advocate for people to make healthy and informed choices.
“Our recently concluded BARDIN report shows that traditional substances, such as marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco remain problematic for the 13 to 40-year-old age group, predominantly males. So, it is important that we give people sound information that is based on our research,” he said.
NCSA Manager, Betty Hunte, noted that the NCSA would continue its outreach efforts in communities, sharing information, and reaching out to stakeholders and others who want to partner with the agency in its drug prevention, education community intervention programme.
Communities which benefited from the initiative were The Pine and Bonnets, St. Michael. The NCSA team shared information and distributed branded promotional items and conducted house-to-house calls.
