The future of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Barbados and the potential benefits it could offer to the island, will be the talking point for an upcoming public consultation on a National Plan for ICT Innovation and Skills Development.

The event will be held next Friday, July 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. in Lecture Theatre 1, Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus and will see discussions on two of four areas of interest to be developed within the ICT Capacity and Infrastructure Project.

The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) announced plans at the beginning of this year to use the project as a means of boosting national economic development.?? As a result, the services of Atom Solutions Inc. were engaged to undertake scope of works under the initiative.

This ICT consulting firm will produce four reports on: Institutional Framework for the Management of the ICT Sector; an Action Plan to rationalise the ICT infrastructure and management in the public sector; an Action Plan for the creation of a high-level ICT skills resource base; and an Action Plan to promote research, innovation and adoption of ICT.??

Interim drafts of the plans have been prepared, with the latter two to be examined during the consultation.??
