A total of 3,728 students will write this year???s Barbados Secondary Schools??? Entrance Examination (BSSEE) on Tuesday, May 6.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, this figure comprises 1,870 males and 1,858 females, who are registered to write the examination at 22 secondary schools across the island.??
This year nine students have requested permission to write the examination at an early age (that is at 10) plus, while last year the figure stood at 14.
The Ministry has also reported that 122 students have made requests to be deferred from writing the BSSEE until 2015. This figure comprises 105 registered students in Class 3 and 17 from Class 4.??Fifty-eight students have also been granted exemptions from writing next month???s examination.
Additionally, there were 101 special requests made by students, primarily for extra time, enlarged print and break for snack. The BSSEE, usually referred to as the Common Entrance Examination or the 11 Plus, will also be taken this year by 209 non-nationals. These students have satisfied the immigration requirements.
As a result of the exam, the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation has advised that there will be no classes for students who attend secondary schools.
