Youth Director in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Cleviston Hunte, has urged more members of the private sector to come on board to further develop the social landscape of Barbados.
He stated that the responsibility for programmes promoting social development should be shared, and should no longer be ???solely in the province of Government???.
Mr. Hunte was speaking at a workshop on Fundraising Management for NGOs and Non-Profits conducted by Axcel Finance at the Radisson Aquatica Resort recently.
The Director noted that over the years, the number of charities, small Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and youth organisations has continually fluctuated.
He identified the failure to fully prepare documentation and information to support project proposals and financial requests as one of the greatest concerns currently being faced by such organisations.
???There have been issues in relation to raising finance, there have also been issues more particularly in terms of (the) governance of the organisations???I think today???s workshop addressed several of those issues, but it also addressed, more importantly, the issue of being prepared [and] the issue of researching and using data in order to justify requests for funding,??? the Director underlined.
Mr. Hunte added that the one-day workshop was a firm step in the right direction, and augured well for the sustainability of the companies.??The workshop, which gathered together over 100 NGOs and charities, sought to equip participants with the necessary information to seek funding.
There were several areas covered in the workshop, including Effective Fundraising Techniques, Grant Proposal Writing and Resource Mobilisation; and Social Media Best Practices for Non-Profit Organisations.
