???The entire stadium must be replaced.???

This was the conclusion drawn by Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, while giving the feature address at the Barbados Association of Netball Umpires (BANU) Awards and Graduation Ceremony on Sunday at the Barbados Workers??? Union, Solidarity House, St. Michael.

The Minister stated that the National Stadium was in need of redevelopment, and as a result, plans had already been drafted to improve the entire structure.

???It is of concern to me that our stadium has not been given???infrastructural attention over many years.

???We have designed a project which will be going to Cabinet very shortly for the total redevelopment of the National Stadium,??? he asserted, adding that the proposal would ultimately be presented to the Ministry of Finance to source the funding for a facility which would include a netball stadium.

???Such a facility would not only contribute to the development of the sport of netball locally, but would contribute to the development of sports tourism, as we would be able to facilitate the hosting of international tournaments.???

He added that the redevelopment of the stadium was ???a priority for the Ministry??? and, with funding, would become a reality ???very soon???.
