Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, said the first PCR result for the small cluster of persons in St. James is negative, and he is confident that there is nothing to worry about.

Speaking to the media at the end of a handing over ceremony of equipment and medical supplies from the Pan American Health Organization at the Glebe Polyclinic yesterday, Minister Bostic said the persons were in quarantine awaiting a second PCR test.

“We are not worried at this point in time, but obviously, we follow the science and we do what is required and that is what is happening right now. But, we are comfortable with what is happening so far,” he stated.

Addressing the reliability of the current PCR test in the wake of a new strain of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom, Lt. Col. Bostic pointed out that there was “nothing that suggests that the current test we are using is not good enough for this variant”.

“Remember, there are several variants, but this is the one that has caught the attention of the international community because of the experience in the United Kingdom. This PCR test, we will continue to use it, and follow all the protocols that we have been following,” the Minister underlined.
