CARICOM Ambassador, Robert Morris has been accredited as this country???s non-resident High Commissioner of Guyana.
The High Commissioner presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Guyana, Donald Ramotar, during a ceremony at his office recently. Ambassador Morris noted that Barbados and Guyana enjoyed a longstanding friendship that was characterised by a shared vision, history, common desires and a determination to nurture Caribbean unity.
???The Caribbean Community, which was forged by the contributions of the larger than life sons of our countries, stands as a beacon of our steadfast friendship and aspirations. However, it is the bilateral relationship which ultimately provides the foundation of mutual understanding on which that regional integration movement is grounded,??? he surmised.
The High Commissioner said the two countries had signed the Agreement for the Deepening of Bilateral Cooperation in 2002, with a view to, among other things; strengthen the traditional ties of friendship and association. It will also deepen the relationship in areas such as trade, investment, marine affairs, tourism, air services, education, agriculture, sports, culture and youth, he noted.
???It is my wish that the special relationship which exists between our two countries will continue to grow and strengthen and that together, we will seize opportunities and collaborate on issues of mutual concern to the benefit of our people. Barbados and Guyana established diplomatic ties in 1966.
