A new Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Strategy and Results Framework 2014 to 2024 is set to take effect soon.

This was disclosed by Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Ronald Jackson, as he addressed the Fifth Meeting of the Council of CDEMA, at Hilton Barbados recently.

???The final, endorsed CDM Strategy and Results Framework 2014-2024, developed through a broad stakeholder consultative process, provides the road map for the building of resilience to hazard impacts at the national and regional levels over the next 10 years,??? he stated.

The new strategy is designed to strengthen monitoring evaluation and reporting systems to track results delivery; to facilitate the development of an implementation plan as a road map for results delivery; place a focus on integrated management of risk associated with all hazards including those related to climate and the expanded stakeholder target, including the finance and economic planning and the physical and environmental planning.

???The CDM Strategy will provide a framework for resource mobilisation going forward,??? Mr. Jackson said, noting it also positioned CDEMA to deliver on the vision of a more resilient Caribbean through CDM.

The Executive Director also pointed out that the regional agency, which covers 18 countries, had already developed proposals to access over US$35 million to implement the new strategy.

And, he added, the Intra-Africa Caribbean and Pacific European Development Fund was signed, positioning CDEMA to access 4.7 million Euros, while the United States of America has provided the agency with a new Regional Training Facility with a warehouse, at a cost of US$4 million.

???We want to take the opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation to all our development partners. Your assistance has made it possible to mobilise resources which exceeded [the] contributions [received],??? Mr. Jackson stated.
