The Fair Trading Commission’s new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Marsha Atherley-Ikechi. (GP)

The Fair Trading Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marsha Atherley-Ikechi as Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Atherley-Ikechi joined the staff of the Commission as Utility Analyst-Water on August 4, 2004. As Utility Analyst-Water she assisted in preparing the framework which would enable the Commission to efficiently regulate the sector. 

Marsha was also actively involved in the electricity sector and was a member of the Commission’s team for the 2009 Barbados Light and Power Company Ltd. Rate Review.

She was formally appointed as Electricity Analyst in December 2014, where she further assumed lead responsibility in a number of projects, including the review of the Barbados Light & Power Standards of Service, the implementation and revision of the Renewable Energy Rider and the Fuel Clause Adjustment Study.

She has also assisted in the telecommunications sector and was involved in the programme under which the Cable & Wireless Standards of Service was established, as well as the assessment of the initial Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO). Dr. Atherley-Ikechi held the post of Director of Utility Regulation from February 2016.

Dr. Atherley-Ikechi holds a BSc. (Hons.) in Biology and Chemistry and a MSc. in Renewable Energy (Dist.) from the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, a MSc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, United Kingdom and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a specialty in Biological Wastewater Treatment from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad.
