A new child health booklet will be launched next week, replacing the “Green Card”, previously given to parents on the birth of an infant.

It will be updated to include the pneumococcal vaccine (pronounced new-mo-cock-ul), a new infant vaccine, that was recently added to the Ministry of Health’s National Immunisation Schedule, in January.

The launch of the booklet will occur during day two of an orientation session for health care personnel, next Wednesday, February 25, at the headquarters of the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO), Dayrell’s Road, St. Michael, from 1:00 p.m.

Minister of Health, Donville Inniss, will deliver the feature address at the launch while Senior Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Elizabeth Ferdinand, will discuss aspects of the new child health booklet.

Meanwhile, the orientation session, which starts from Tuesday, February 24, targets nurses and other medical health professionals in the private and public sectors and aims to sensitise them about the effective use of various sections of the booklet.

The key objectives of the session are to train all participants on how to effectively complete the sections of the booklet and to explore the skills and methodologies needed to explain to parents how to use the document.
