The public enquiry for Sub-Area 8: Needhams Point to South Point, for the new Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plan, will now be held on Wednesday, July 14, at 6:00 p.m.

The virtual meeting may be accessed by clicking here. The meeting, being hosted by the Coastal Zone Management Unit, was postponed due to the passage of Hurricane Elsa.

Public enquiries are designed to highlight the “nuts and bolts” of the ICZM plan, its benefits and impacts.  They will also examine the unique characteristics, risks, and goals of the eight different sub areas.

Members of the public are encouraged to join the sessions and learn more about the plan, which was created to make Barbados’ coastline more resilient to the impacts of climate change, and for them to share their views.

Persons are also encouraged to voice their opinions on the new ICZM plan by visiting the CZMU website to download and share feedback.

They may also send comments to the CZMU via its WhatsApp number 256-3173, or email to ICZMPlan@coastal.gov.bb.

The new ICZM plan aims to introduce improved coastal risk understanding and methods into the delivery and design of improved coastal adaptation planning with the overarching goal to make the coastline of Barbados more resilient to climate change.

To do so, it uses the latest knowledge and science on climate change and coastal risks to produce guidelines, legislation, regulations, standards and advisories. Government, through the CZMU, is spearheading the new approach to ICZM.
