The Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management is inviting all fisherfolk to a series of national consultations on a Draft Sub-Regional Resource Management Plan for the Eastern Caribbean Flying Fish during the 2013-2014 Season.

The Plan has been developed by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism and the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s Western Central Atlantic Fisheries Commission Joint Working Group on flying fish resources.

The locations and dates are as follows: St. Mark’s Church Hall, Consett Bay, St. John, on Thursday, March 14; the Bridgetown Fisheries Division, Princess Alice Highway, on Saturday, March 16; the Speightstown Fish Market, St. Peter, on Tuesday, March 19; and the Berinda Cox Fishing Complex, (Fisherfolk Room), Oistins, Christ Church, on Thursday, March 21. All of the consultations begin at 6:00 p.m.

The objectives are to sustain flying fish resources as well as to make optimal use of these resources for the long-term socio-economic well-being of fishery workers. The purpose of the consultations is to make stakeholders aware of the contents of the plan; obtain important feedback from them on any necessary adjustments needed; get acceptance; and prepare for implementation.
