Barbados will see a new Governor-General being sworn-in this Friday, June 1, in a special ceremony in the Senate Chamber of Parliament Buildings, starting at 4:30 p.m.

His Excellency, retired justice of the High Court, Elliot Fitzroy Belgrave, will take the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office to become this country’s seventh Governor-General, before a number of dignitaries, including Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Marston Gibson, national hero, the Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, members of Cabinet, other Members of Parliament, and the diplomatic corps.

Prior to his arrival, a Guard of Honour, consisting of the bands of the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Barbados Defence Force, will assemble in National Heroes Square, while detachments of the Barbados Boys’ Scouts Association and the Girl Guides Association will also form part of the welcoming party at the south gate of Parliament Buildings.

After receiving the Royal Commission from the Private Secretary in the Senate Chamber, the new Governor-General will be accorded a 21-gun Royal Salute in National Heroes Square, where he will inspect a Guard of Honour before departing for Government House.
