Construction of a new multipurpose hard court has started at Briar Hall Resource Centre and Pavilion.
This disclosure has come from Director of the National Sports Council (NSC), Erskine King, who said: "Work on the hard court started three weeks ago; the marl fill has been put on the hard court and it is to be rolled in. We anticipate that within another two and a half weeks, weather permitting, that it should be completed and, thereafter, we will do the markings and so forth. It would be ready for use by those persons involved in the disciplines of basketball, netball, etcetera."
Mr. King added that the Briar Hall facility would be complete once the hard court was finished. "Earlier we had completed the lighting of the playing field, as well as remedial work, so it can be seen as a complete facility," he said.
He explained that the field had taken a lot of strain off the nearby Dover facility, since the resident club played a lot of cricket there, not only domestic, but against a lot of touring teams.
He further pointed out that people in and outside the area enjoyed using the Briar Hall facility for tape ball cricket, football and other sports. "So, the hard court would complement what is already there in terms of use by the residents close by and others in the wider community," he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Director noted that work on the pavilion at Bayleys Primary School should be completed by the end of the year. This project is being done jointly by the National Sports Council and the National Housing Corporation.
The Council manages 69 pavilions across the island.
