Minister of Social Care, Christopher Sinckler, speaking at the NDU’s Sign Language Programme End of Series Presentation last weekend.

Government’s National Disabilities Unit (NDU) should have a new home by April.

That is according to Minister of Social Care, Christopher Sinckler, who was speaking at the NDU’s Sign Language Programme End of Series Presentation at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last weekend.

Stating that he would be making every possible effort to get the resources, personnel and attention needed to assist the NDU, the Minister said he had instructed officials of his Ministry to “find  somewhere expeditiously” to place the Unit.

“My hope is that, come April or before, the National Disabilities Unit would have identified a place which they can fit into; so that every body could have access to it… We have to find somewhere… that is more accessible to persons with disabilities,” he remarked.

The NDU is now situated on the first floor of the NUPW headquarters; and to access the office, persons with disabilities have to climb at least 19 steps. During a tour there recently, Mr. Sinckler had promised that the situation would be corrected as soon as possible.
