Government has granted approval for Barbadian John Ernest Beale to be the Honorary Consul for Belize in Barbados.

Mr. Beale received his formal instrument (Exequatur) signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, authorising him to exercise the duties of office in Barbados, on behalf of the Government of Belize.

He is a former Ambassador for Barbados to the United States of America and the Organisation of American States (OAS). He has worked in the banking and finance sector for over 20 years, locally, regionally and internationally.

Building stronger relationships between the two countries, especially in the area of trade, is one of the key areas Mr. Beale said he would focus on as Honorary Consul.

He also noted that a relationship with Belize, which is part of CARICOM, OAS and the Caribbean Cooperation Accreditation, is strategic to creating stronger ties with Central American countries.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Simone Rudder, concurred that “Belize is CARICOM’s bridge to Central America”.

She pointed out that the establishment of an Honorary Consulate and the designation of an Honorary Consul of Belize in Barbados is an important step, which will assist in the facilitation and administration of consular services for Belizean citizens residing in, or travelling to Barbados.

It will also provide a direct interface for Barbadian private and public sector agencies that wish to conduct business with the Belizean Government and the private sector.

Acting Senior Foreign Service Officer with responsibility for CARICOM/Caribbean Affairs Division, Sandra Gittens, noted that to further solidify and build collaboration with Belize, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is keen to establish a joint commission mechanism.
