Barbadian academics and economists will soon have another reference tool to assist them in the preparation of scholarly papers on a range of socio-economic issues.

The Research and Planning Unit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Empowerment and Innovation, will be publishing Volume III of the Journal of Public Policy Analysis in December.

In outlining the significance of the series, Acting Chief Economist, Ronnie Griffith, said the Journal was conceptualised by the former Acting Director of the Unit, Patrick McCaskie, to explore a range of topics that are critical to the Caribbean experience.

He also praised former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bentley Gibbs – the first Chairman of the Editorial and Review Committees – for his guidance in the process.

To ensure that the papers submitted for publication were of a high quality, Mr. Griffith explained that an Editorial Review Committee which comprised members such as Professors Frank Alleyne; Roland Craigwell; Paul Turner from the United Kingdom and Arindam Banik from India, reviewed the papers for factual accuracy.

"Members of the committee would ensure that the papers were acceptable given the high standards set by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.?? The Journal is a document which will be distributed worldwide," the Chief Economist added.

Mr. Griffith further stated: "The Journal has also been placed on the international website of EBSCO Publishing Inc., which is a United States based publishing company.????

Volume I of the Journal was launched on December 21, 2007 and the second volume, which is a collection of eight papers on topics such as Remittances and their Effect on the Level of Investment and Talent Management, was launched last December.

The senior official disclosed that six papers had been submitted to be published in Volume III.
