Minister of Education, Ronald Jones

Come the start of the new school year, systems should be in place to see the revival of the defunct National Council of Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA).

Speaking last Saturday at a meeting with Presidents and Secretaries from Parent Teacher Associations (PTA’s) from the island’s primary and secondary schools, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones said “over the next five to six months structures should be in place to facilitate the launch in the new school year”.

Addressing the large gathering in the St. Michael School Hall, Minister Jones stated that the purpose of the meeting was to “get the NCPTA up and running. Your voices need to be heard. This organisation has an important role to play in Barbados,” he stressed.

Minister Jones disclosed that a location had already been selected to house the organisation. “We have identified a Secretariat from which the NCPTA will function. There will also be some technical support provided to aid the organisation in its early stages,” he pointed out.

The former teacher explained that an interim committee would be established as soon as possible during which members would have the opportunity to interface with the Ministry of Education.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Patrick Todd, Chief Education Officer, Wendy Griffith- Watson, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Anthony Layne and Deputy Chief Education Officer, Laurie King.
