When Parliament meets tomorrow, Toni Moore, the first woman to hold the seat in the St. George North Constituency, will take her place on the benches and get down to serious work.
The current General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union took the Oath before Acting Governor General, Sir Kenneth Hewitt, during the swearing-in ceremony at Government House today.
Sir Kenneth, in congratulating Ms. Moore, said: “We are very lucky to have this calibre of person to represent us, especially in these turbulent times…”
Ms. Moore said the swearing-in formalised “the start of the journey”, and added that the first order of business would be going to the House of Assembly where she “may make a maiden address”.
Also in attendance were Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley; Members of Cabinet; Ms. Moore’s husband, Emmerson Bascombe; her parents Glendine and Lorton Moore and other relatives; and former union boss, Sir Roy Trotman.
