Supervisors and managers across the island will soon have an opportunity to sharpen their skills, while contributing to the improved productivity of their employees.
This disclosure has come from Head of Training and Development at The Productivity Council, Shawn Callender, who said a Productivity Best Practices Programme for Supervisors and Managers had been developed.
Mr. Callender stated: ???We are looking at offering the programme for supervisors and managers this year because we have found that at that level, there needs to be greater emphasis on what those administrators do, such as recognition and reward of employees, performance appraisal and performance management.???
The topics to be examined during the one-day programme are: Delegation, Leadership, Communication, Time Management, Team Work and Performance Management, that is, how to conduct appraisals. Managers interested in registering their companies for the new training session should contact the Council at 626-9416.
The Council is currently preparing to offer its Getting Everyone To Understand Productivity (GET UP) half-day workshops every Tuesday, from February 17 to March 24, at the Council???s Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael, headquarters. Participants will be exposed to a number of areas, namely Productivity Awareness, Service Excellence, Communication, Work Ethics and Teamwork.
Mr. Callender underscored the importance of the GET UP training, especially since Government has made productivity one of the pillars for improving and growing the Barbados economy. ???If we improve our productivity, then our performance and competitiveness will improve. That should help us earn foreign exchange and attract foreign companies because business people want to invest in an island that is productive,??? he contended.
He added that the Council had received positive responses from those who had participated in the programme, with employers reporting that they had seen some improvement in the performance of their employees since they attended the sessions.
