Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley

Come next month, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) will have a new Project Unit to fast track its housing solutions programme.

According to General Manager, Vincent Alleyne, the NHC wanted to implement a unit dedicated solely to ensuring that a project has a finite life cycle.

“I think that the NHC has traditionally been organised along functions where the responsibility for any project lies with several departments. This new unit would be solely responsible for the life-cycle of a project … and it will be initially made up of a number of professionals drawn from the NHC staff,” he said.

Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley stated that this unit would be critical in addressing the waiting list of approximately 30,000 persons and would propel the Housing Every Last Person (HELP) Programme.  He disclosed that, “the unit will work with Town Planning, the Water Authority…and all Government agencies that are connected to housing in Barbados”.

The HELP programme is currently underway with homes being built in Marchfield and Work Hall St. Philip; Four Hill and French Village, St. Peter; and Greens and Constant in St. George.
