COVID-19 Update and Press Conference – January 09, 2021. (PMO)

A 24-hour hotline has been established by the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport to address the delays being experienced by visitors and Barbadians in quarantine at hotels and other accommodation in receiving their second COVID-19 test results.

Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins, announced the new hotline during an update to the nation last evening from Ilaro Court.

She stated: “We have actually stood up a call centre.  It will be available 24 hours a day.  Over the next 48 hours, we will be staffing it with our most senior officers so that we’re able to deal with the initial challenges that you’ve been dealing with.

“We want to encourage you to call that call centre 628-4150, … for those persons who are not based here in Barbados that’s 1(246) 628-4150.”

Senator Cummins urged those who are currently awaiting their second COVID-19 test results for more than 72 hours to contact the call centre.

“Please feel free to call that number and share with us when you arrived; how long you have been awaiting a test result; when you had the swab taken; who took that swab; and we will be working closely with our partners in the Ministry of Health to ensure that we can get that test result back,” she said.

Ms. Cummins apologised to those persons affected by the delayed test results and noted: “Everyone is fighting an entirely different battle, but it is the same battle, we’re all fighting COVID together and ensuring that we can be the best that we can be….

“But we are a small island, we aim for the top and sometimes we don’t always make it there, but we’re committed to always trying, and so we are going to be working with you.”
