The Environmental Health Department of the Ministry of Health will intensify its campaign against the Aedes aegypti mosquito when it launches the Arboviral Disease Eradication Programme on Monday, February 15.

The three-month programme involves health inspectors conducting house-to-house inspections across the island.

Principal Environmental Health Officer, Ronald Chapman, who is coordinating the exercise, said that on Monday, 35 officers will start at Six Men???s Fish Market, St. Peter, and move towards the south, while another 35 officers will begin a similar exercise from Chancery Lane, Christ Church, going north.

He explained that the urban corridor was being given the highest priority because of the population density in these areas.??The stepped-up action comes on the heels of the Zika virus, which has infected seven Barbadians so far, including three pregnant women.
