Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley

Members of staff of the National Housing Corporation (NHC) are taking time out to celebrate 36 years of service to the Barbadian public, with a 20/20 Cricket Match and a staff concert, among other in-house activities.

Friday, May 22 will see members of the office going up against site workers, in two tape-ball cricket matches.?? The ladies game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Dover Playing Field, Dover, Christ Church and the gents match will follow.?? The women???s team will be lead by Andene Griffith and the Captain of the male team is Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley.

The Corporation???s activities will culminate on Saturday, June 13, at 8:00 p.m. with a concert at the NHC???s headquarters, Country Road, St Michael.??

The public is invited to be a part of the festivities, as staff members sing, dance, model and compete in a calypso competition.?? The Minister???s band, with Mr. Lashley on bass guitar, will also perform.

The NHC was established on April 1, 1973.?? Over the years, the Corporation has had a significant impact on the housing programmes of the island and made a direct impact on more than 60 per cent of all households, through its various projects ??? whether through providing a house/lot for rent, or purchase by providing financial assistance through a loan.??

The work of the NHC, under the banner of the Housing Every Last Person programme, recently accelerated to meet growing customer demands.?? It includes the building of homes across the island for lower and middle income earners, the 500 lots programme, infill housing, the 20-year transfer of terrace units programme and the rent-to-own concept that will be launched this Saturday, May 23.
