The National Heritage Department (NHD) is continuing its outreach efforts in observance of the International Year of Biodiversity and Environment Month.

In keeping with the global "Green Wave" programme, a multi-year global campaign which enables?? children and youth to make a difference – one school, one tree, one step at a time, the?? department will, next week,?? be conducting tree planting exercises at two of its adopted schools.

Next Tuesday, June 15, Director of the NHD, Steve Devonish, along with NHD staff, will be hosting a tree planting ceremony, at the Wesley Hall Infants School, in the City, beginning at 3: 15 p.m. ??This will be done in collaboration with the school’s Environmental Club.

On Thursday, June 17, the NHD team will be conducting a second tree planting exercise, to mark World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. It will be held at the Holy Innocents Primary School, in St. Thomas, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

On Saturday, June 19, activities will continue with the staging of ???De Heart Uh Barbados’ 5K walk and 10 K run.???? The race will start at 6:00 a.m. at the NHD???s headquarters, #1 Sturges, St. Thomas.

In addition to cash prizes for overall winners, and incentives for various age groups, there will also be a special segment for community participants.

Registration forms are available from the Surfside Gym, the National Sports Council, the Wildey Gymnasium and the NHD. They must be returned to the NHD by next Thursday, June 17.
