The Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) partnered with the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation (BEF) and Optimist Club Barbados to officially launch the ninth cohort of the $20 Challenge Programme this morning, at the Sagicor School of Business and Management, Cave Hill Campus, St. Michael.

Manager of YES, Ryan Moseley, in his remarks on the partnership with BEF, highlighted the synergistic relationship which exists between the two agencies.  He said together they seek to “promote a culture of entrepreneurship among the youth in Barbados”.

Mr. Moseley added that YES will continue to provide technical assistance and support to the $20 Challenge Programme by procuring the services of facilitators for the programme, as well as judging of the finals and contributing to the prizes for the winning group.

In 2011, the $20 Challenge programme was launched as an annual competition to help build a culture of entrepreneurship among students in secondary and tertiary institutions across Barbados. The programme allows students to experience building a business before they enter the world of work.

The challenge’s main purpose is to give young people the opportunity to be enterprising. It aims to increase their ability to respond positively to change; take reasonable risks; create and execute new ideas and new ways of doing things, and to act on their plans confidently.
