Norway has promised to continue supporting the Caribbean and other small island developing states (SIDS).

Ambassador of Norway, Ingrid Mollestad gave the assurance to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, and Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, during a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Culloden Road, St. Michael, today.

Ambassador Mollestad said: “We will work for small island developing states and the Caribbean in all fora.”  She also thanked Barbados for hosting the dialogue between the Government of Venezuela and the opposition, which was mediated by Norway.

The envoy further mentioned that her nation was keen to support the upcoming United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, which will take place in Bridgetown from October 18 to 23.

Minister Walcott expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Ambassador and emphasized that he was keen to see greater bilateral cooperation between Norway and Barbados.

“We can’t speak negatively about Norway,” he said, praising the country for paying attention to the environment and climate change, both areas of concern to Barbados.

Minister Humphrey discussed matters related to renewable energy and the Norwegian Petroleum management model.

He lauded its transparency, structure, the safety element and the distribution of wealth, all of which he said are fundamental to what Barbados is hoping to achieve.
