Importers and exporters of refrigerants categorised as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are reminded that an import and/or export licence must be obtained from the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs before they are traded.

The HCFCs such as R22, R408A, and R406A, and HFCs like R134A, R410A, R404A, R32, R507A, and R407C are among these gases.

Importers and exporters of refrigerant gases should also be mindful that due to the impending global 2030 production and consumption phase-out of HCFCs, these refrigerants remain subject to the national quota system that is jointly managed by the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification (MENB), the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the Customs and Excise Department.

The National Ozone Unit has been working with partner agencies to notify stakeholders about the updated Tariff Headings, which may be accessed by visiting http://asycuda.customs.gov.bb/; clicking on the tab entitled “Online Services”; selecting the option entitled “Online Tariff”, and entering the search criteria.

Persons are, therefore, encouraged to ensure that the correct information (e.g. tariff headings, descriptions and weights, etc.) is entered into the system for each refrigerant imported and/or exported in order to avoid any associated application processing and/or clearance delays.

For additional information or clarification, please call the NOU, MENB at telephone number 535-4389, or email odsmanagement@barbados.gov.bb.
