The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) will hold a series of town hall meetings on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for Barbados, beginning next week.
The meetings are aimed at gathering feedback on the proposed NQF that is being financed in part through a grant from the European Union.
The NQF is Pillar 2 of the Barbados Human Resource Development Strategy 2011-2016, and is considered a major mechanism that will transform the delivery of education and training in Barbados.
Through attending the sessions, parents, students, members of professional bodies, employers, and secondary and tertiary educational providers will be afforded the opportunity to see where qualifications at the secondary and tertiary levels fit within the framework.
The first meeting will be held at Queen???s College, Husbands, St. James, on Thursday, January 15. This will be followed by meetings on Friday, January 16, at The Alexandra School, Queen???s Street, St. Peter; Friday, January 23, at The Lester Vaughan School, Cane Garden, St. Thomas; and Wednesday, January 28, at Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St. Philip.
The meetings will continue on Wednesday, February 4, at Deighton Griffith Secondary, Kingsland, Christ Church; Thursday, February 12, at the Barbados Workers??? Union Headquarters, Harmony Hall, St. Michael; and Wednesday, February 18, at the Queen???s Park Steel Shed, The City. All town hall meetings will commence at 7.30 p.m. and end at 9.30 p.m.
The sessions will be addressed by Executive Director of BAC, Valda Alleyne; Executive Director of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council, Henderson Eastmond, and representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and the University of the West Indies (Open Campus and Cave Hill Campus).
