Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, has described the National Training Initiative (NTI) as critical in Government’s efforts to equip workers with the skills for a modern workforce.
She expressed this view while addressing the virtual signing of a Letter of Intent between the NTI and Kenya’s Youth Enterprise Development, recently.
Emphasising that the signing was one of the initiatives coming out of its home-grown economic transformation programme, Senator Munro-Knight added that it was necessary to equip citizens to operate in a modern world.
“And, therefore, in the context of that, the government was very convinced that the traditional approach to restructuring the economy was not one that would serve us… We needed to have an approach which very much recognised that the repositioning of the economy was also dependent on the extent to which we can ensure that our citizens were also transitioned in a way that could allow them to better operate in the context for which the world was moving…,” she stated.
The Minister pointed out that Barbados and Kenya shared a similar goal to see its youth population better positioned to understand their role in national development.
“I am hoping that this partnership will allow us to be able to forge deeper linkages and share those lessons as it relates to training and help us to further together youth development, which is critical for all of us at this particular time. We will learn from each other whether it will be through delivery modalities, content, cultural approaches and language; our people and nations will be enriched by these exploratory changes…,” Dr. Munro-Knight underlined.
