Nurses who are employed in the primary health care system will be rewarded for their hard work this weekend as part of celebrations to mark Public Health Nurses Week.

The Primary Health Care Awards, which have been initiated by the Ministry of Health to recognise excellence in nursing practice, will be held at the Savannah Hotel this Saturday, July 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. Minister of Health, Donville Inniss, is expected to deliver the feature address at the event.

Categories for Awards are: Perfect Attendance – Health Sister and Staff Nurse; Outstanding Clinic; Most Improved Health Sister and Staff Nurse; Initiation of Special Project; Home Visits – Health Sister and Staff Nurse; and Most Outstanding Health Sister and Staff Nurse.

Nurses were nominated and graded for a particular category by the Senior Health Sister and her Deputy at their respective clinics. The scores were then submitted to a committee which used the information to determine the recipient of each award.

The marking criterion was developed by the committee in conjunction with the Chief Public Health Nurse.
