Barbadian nurses will observe nurses week from Thursday, May 12 to Wednesday, May 18, with a series of activities under the theme: Closing the Gap: Increasing Access and Equity, given by the International Council for Nurses.

Nurses’ valuable contribution to health care will be highlighted throughout the week, with the hosting of activities at various health care institutions to mark International Nurses’ Day.

Nurses Week starts with a seminar based on the given theme, on Thursday, May 12, the day recognised as International Nurses’ Day or Florence Nightengale Day.?? The event will be held at the Southern Palms Hotel in St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Celebrations continue on Saturday, May 14, with an Appreciation Dinner at the Accra Beach Hotel, Rockley Christ Church, from 7:00 until 11:00 p.m.

The following day, Sunday, May 15, a church service will be held at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, at Cheapside, Bridgetown starting at 8:45 a.m.

Nurses Week will culminate on Wednesday, May 18, with a community health fair in the foyer of the Frank Walcott Building, Culloden Road, St. Michael. This gets under way at 10:00 a.m. and will run until 2:00 p.m.
