Children, from ages nine to 13 can, this summer, learn to cook and adopt a healthier lifestyle, by attending this year’s National Nutrition Centre’s summer camp.

As part of its community outreach programme, two camps are scheduled to run from Monday, July 12 to Friday, July 23.?? They will be held at Combermere and Ellerslie Secondary Schools, respectively.

The two-week sessions begin at 9.30 a.m. and end at 1.00 p.m.

A major aim of the camp is to teach children good nutritional habits. Additionally, these camps seek to create an awareness of the nutritional needs of adolescents; show and encourage children to prepare nutritious dishes using local foods and to engender an interest in backyard gardening.

The activities for the camp will include discussions and hands-on experiences that will help camp-goers acquire positive health behaviours.

Registration will be conducted at the National Nutrition Centre, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael, from July 5 to 9.

For further information, parents interested in enrolling their children in this year’s camp should contact the National Nutrition Centre at 427-1793/94 for further information.??jgill@barbados.gov.bb
