The Organization of American States (OAS) will celebrate the Fifth Annual Inter-American Week for People of African Descent in the Americas under the theme Stories of Courage in the Americas: Resistance to Slavery and Unity against Racism, from March 21 to 25.

One of the activities scheduled is a poetry competition, which will be done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT).

The OAS Barbados Office is therefore inviting Barbadian youth aged 16 to 25 to submit their newly created or existing poetry, via e-mail to oasbarbados@oas.org

Poetry should not be more than 400 words and must relate to the selected theme.  Additionally, submissions should include the following: poet’s name, age, address, phone number and e-mail address.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 23.

All entries will be reviewed but only the winning entrants will be contacted. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the top three poems.  With the author’s permission, the winning poems will be posted on the OAS Barbados Office webpage.
