The construction of??the hard court at the Briar Hall Resource Centre began late last year. (FP)

A new multipurpose hard court at Briar Hall Resource Centre and Pavilion, Christ Church, will be officially opened next Monday, February 18.

Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, will deliver remarks during the brief ceremony. Two matches – netball and road tennis – will be played on the hard court and a cultural presentation will follow.

Director of the National Sports Council (NSC), Erskine King, is on record as saying that once the court was finished, the Briar Hall facility would be complete, since the playing field had already been lit and remedial work done.

Mr. King is of the view that the field has taken a lot of strain off the nearby Dover facility, since the resident club hosts a lot of cricket match there, not only domestic, but against many touring teams.

He pointed out that persons in and outside the area enjoyed using the Briar Hall facility for tape ball cricket, football and other sports. "So, the hard court would complement what is already there in terms of use by the residents close by and others in the wider community," he stressed.??
