As part of celebrations to mark 50 years of universal, free, public education, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development will host a photographic exhibition, depicting education throughout the period 1962 to 2012.

The exhibition, which will be hosted at the Grande Salle of the Tom Adams Financial Centre, from Wednesday, October 3 to Thursday, October 11, will utilise photos from the Media Resource Department as well as those provided by the Barbados Government Information Service, The Nation newspaper, schools, as well as the public.

Among its exhibits will be photographs of educational institutions, including defunct schools; educational activities such as workshops for professional development, the introduction and use of information technology in schools and portraits of persons who worked in education, such as Principals, Teachers, Chief Education Officers, Education Officers and Ministers.

The early years and progress of the School Meals Department, which is marking 50 years of service as well, will also be on display.

The official launch of the pictorial exhibition will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Bank. Minister of Education, Ronald Jones, will address the launch and cut the ribbon. The event will also be addressed by Chief Audio Visual Officer, Walter Harper and Senior Education Officer (Planning, Research and International Relations), Dr. Roderick Rudder.

Members of the public are invited to attend the nine-day exhibition which runs from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
