COVID-19 update & plans for the management of the pandemic in Barbados for the remainder of the holiday season. (PMO)

Contact tracing, an ongoing process in public health, has revealed no recent clusters related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was emphasised today by Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kenneth George, as he addressed a press conference at Ilaro Court to update Barbadians on plans for the management of the pandemic for the remainder of the holiday season.

It was chaired by Chairman of the Cabinet COVID-19 Sub-Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott.

While acknowledging that contact tracing occurs on a daily basis, Dr. George pointed out that this was nothing new.

“It is part of the process of good public health; so that if an individual comes to Barbados and has tested positive, we always look at that individual and the immediate contacts. We are actively doing so many forms of contact tracing in Barbados,” he stressed as he pointed out there had been no outbreaks in relation to COVID-19.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer added: “There have been no clusters; there is no local transmission; there is no community transmission, but once we are in a pandemic, you are going to have the public health teams always doing these types of investigations.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, assured media representatives that the matter of a ‘cluster’ previously referred to had been put to rest, as a result of contact tracing.

He said: “All of the persons who were contacted in relation [to the cluster], through contact tracing; [all] those persons who were thought to be exposed, in any way whatsoever, those persons have not only been tested once and quarantined but second tested as well, and all have been negative. So, there is absolutely no issue in relation to that particular case you are referring to.”
