Government’s Employability Project will be launched tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15, on the Zoom platform, and live streamed on the Barbados Government Information Service’s Facebook page.

The pilot project, which is expected to last for two months, targets persons who have lost their jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and seeks to equip them with new skills and knowledge for the job market, once the economy is re-energised.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO), has joined forces with the ILO Caribbean Office and the National Training Initiative here on the island to provide free online training in three areas. These are: ‘Core/Soft Skills’, ‘Occupational Safety and Health’ and ‘Entrepreneurship’.

The virtual launch will take place from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, Colin Jordan, will deliver the feature address at the start of the event.

Other speakers will be ILO Deputy Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Claudia Coenjaerts; Director of the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, Lars Johansen; United Nations Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the OECS, Didier Trebucq; and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Karen Best.
