An online educational tool, showcased recently at the Barbados Technology in Education Conference (BTEC) and Exhibition, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, will officially be launched next week.

The Caribbean Mathematics Enrichment Project, which is aimed at enhancing the mathematical skills of students, has been endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and will be presented to educators and others in a brief ceremony at the St. Leonard’s Boys’ Secondary School, on Tuesday, March 27, at 6.30 pm.

Chief Education Officer, Laurie King, will address the ceremony.

Developers, ConquerMaths Caribbean, with the support of sponsor, CIBC First Caribbean International Bank and the Education Ministry, will launch the project along with a Top 5 PTA Drive, a contest where the top five performing students in primary and secondary schools will receive $100 each and a year’s free enrollment in the online maths programme. One top primary and secondary student will also win a Samsung Tablet.

Principals, Heads of Maths Departments and presidents of Parent Teachers Associations (PTA), from public and private primary and secondary schools, have been invited to the event and are expected to be among the first recipients of complimentary packages and free enrollments.

Project Coordinator, Winston Cumberbatch, who demonstrated the project at BTEC, said: "It provides access to over 1,000 interactive lessons, is reasonably priced and is aimed at students of mathematics from reception to tertiary level, that is, aged four and into adulthood. It is intended to help overcome some of the mathematical challenges which we have at all levels of learning not only here but in the region."

Parents/guardians are invited to view demonstrations and enroll their children for sessions on the Caribbean Mathematics Enrichment Project from next week, at the St. Leonard’s Boys’ Secondary School.

These will be held on Thursday, March 29; Tuesday, April 3; and Thursday, April 5, from??5.00 – 7.00 p.m.
