The participation of persons in the upcoming 11th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC-11) is being hailed as integral to the success of the event, which is scheduled to come off at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, May 9 to 12.??

The conference, with its theme: "Keeping the Right Balance: Creating Opportunities through a World Class Sustainable Tourism Product", is expected to bring over 150 regional and international delegates to Barbados, among them several esteemed speakers.

Chief Tourism Development Officer, and chair of the STC-11 planning committee, Nicole Alleyne, in a recent interview with the Barbados Government Information Service, noted that in addition to the expected inflow of delegates, full participation by locals was being sought.

She explained: "The Ministry of Tourism and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), who are joint organisers of the upcoming STC-11, are ensuring that local craftsmen will have a presence throughout the period.

"A component of the conference entails an exhibition in the foyer of the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and through this event Government will be providing an opportunity for local artisans to showcase their products for sale to conference delegates and the public in general."

Pointing out that regional arts and craft would also be on display at the STC-11, Ms. Alleyne added, "For our local participants, table tops and 8’x 8′ booths will be made available. The participation cost for the table tops is BDS $100 and for the booths BDS $300.?? A limited number of table tops and booths are available, so we invite persons to sign up early."
