Those Barbadians that have made a sterling contribution to the development of Afrocentricity in Barbados, will be honoured by the Commission for Pan-African Affairs (CPAA) during a special awards gala next week.

The inaugural Oshe Emeka Awards Gala, held to coincide with the 70th birthday of Marcus Garvey, takes place on Tuesday, August 17, at the Hilton Barbados, Needhams Point, St. Michael, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Among the list of awardees are Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles; Patriarch of the Sons of God Apostolic Church, Bishop Granville Williams; Senator Orlando Marville; former UWI Lecturer, Professor Alvin Thompson; and broadcaster, Olutoye Walrond.

During the event, there will also be presentations of the Lifetime Achievement Awards as well as the Honoured Ancestor Awards.

Acting Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart, and Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett, will present awards, while the Culture Minister will deliver the feature address.??jwilson@barbados.gov.bb
