Australian High Commissioner to Barbados and non-resident Head of Mission to other CARICOM countries Philip Kentwell, has praised the long-standing harmonious relationship with the region.

He made this observation during a farewell call on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, at Parliament recently.

The two officials discussed a range of issues including the shared interests of the green economy and its benefits to countries as well as cricket as a unifying force of the West Indies.

They also swapped anecdotal stories about keenly contested cricket matches between the two rivals Australia and the West Indies as well as the exploits of cricketing greats such as Sir Garfield Sobers, Seymour Nurse and Sir Wesley Hall.

The Prime Minister added that the sport had "cemented the closeness of the relationship between the two countries".

In turn, High Commissioner Kentwell said he was leaving the region satisfied that the bilateral relations with Barbados were very strong and expressed the hope that they would grow from strength to strength.

Barbados and Australia established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1974.
