Mothers who have contributed to the empowerment of communities across Barbados, will be honoured at a luncheon this Saturday, May 7, at the Tropical Winds Hotel, Long Bay, St. Philip, starting at 11:00 a.m.

The event, titled a Celebration for Mothers, is being hosted by the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, in conjunction with the Department of Constituency Empowerment.

Minister Steve Blackett, under whose patronage the event will be held, explained that the 30 Constituency Councils have selected four mothers from within their respective constituencies who deserve to be acknowledged for their "noteworthy contribution to the community".

In describing the initiative as a "worthwhile venture", the Social Care Minister stated: "I believe it is necessary that we honour Barbadian mothers in our communities, who have been the backbone of our society for generations."
