As dengue continues to pose a significant health threat in the region, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organisation (WHO) Barbados office and the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC), will host a two-day Emergency Vector Control Workshop, this Wednesday, October 13, to Friday, October 15.??

Officials from these regional organisations will gather at the Grand Barbados Beach Resort to examine the situation in the Caribbean sub-region with a view to urgently mobilising resources, sharing knowledge and experiences and marshalling the necessary interventions and support to combat this emerging health challenge.??

Minister of Health, Donville Inniss, will deliver the feature address, and remarks will be given by Dr. Bernadette Theodore-Gandi, the PAHO Caribbean Program Coordinator.?? Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection that causes a severe flu-like illness, and sometimes a potentially lethal complication called dengue haemorrhagic fever. lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
