Barbados and Panama will seek to forge a closer relationship through the twinning of their two major cities.

On Saturday, June 27, during City Fest and the Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes, Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, will present Vice Mayor of Panama City, Risa Banfield, with a key to the City of Bridgetown.

A similar event will occur on August 15, when representatives from Barbados will attend the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the founding of Panama City. At this ceremony, Barbadian officials will be given the key to Panama City, which would be the last step in the twinning of the two cities.

The twinning, which builds on the 100 year relationship between the two countries, is aimed at further strengthening the cultural and heritage linkages between the two countries and establishing a basis for further cooperation. The handcrafted key to be used in the handover on Saturday was made by Barbadian businessman and sculptor, Reginald Medford of Medford Craft World.
