Panama is seeking to establish a direct flight to Barbados.

This was disclosed today by President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, immediately following his arrival at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Mr. Varela said his country was working with Barbados??? Ministry of Tourism to establish a direct flight between Barbados and Panama, and also with London through Barbados from Panama.

???Panama is promoting this hub connecting direct to more than 72 cities in the Americas, and 30 countries of the Americas. So, Panama is an important hub for the region and we want to work closer with all the Caribbean countries to promote tourism, trade and commerce and for investment too,??? he said.

The President also noted that Panama was looking to promote the sharing of information for security reasons and he disclosed that Panamanian students and teachers would be coming here to learn English, as Panama was impressed with Barbados??? education system.

The Panamanian President is here on the island to participate in the 36th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
