Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo??

Government???s Parent Support Programme will be launched within a few days with a training-of-trainers workshop.

Twenty persons will be instructed during the session, which begins next Monday, May 25, at Harrison College.

Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, will deliver the feature address, while the Director of PAREDOS, Marva Springer, will give brief remarks.

This programme aims to develop a cadre of well trained and competent individuals who will deliver training to parents and prospective parents, so as to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to have healthy relationships with their children.

The five modules to be taught over a nine-week period are: Parenting, Coping and Managing, Finding Self, Seeking Help and Action Planning.

At the end, the participants should be able to identify and utilise the positive parenting traits they have learnt in an effort to enhance the quality of family life across Barbados.

Dr. Byer Suckoo is on record as stating that this programme ???is very urgent???, especially since some mothers and fathers could be described as ???parents by default???. She said: ???A lot of parents have thrown their hands in the air with their teenagers because they sometimes don???t know how to cope and communicate with them.??? saustin@barbados.gov.bb
