Open days at Government Day Nurseries provide an atmosphere for the development of a better rapport between the caretakers and parents.

This was underscored by Supervisor of the Sayes Court Day Nursery, Sandra Franklyn, during a recent interview with the Barbados Government Information Service at the Christ Church institution.

Pointing out that at times there was little interaction between parents and staff when the children were taken to and collected from the nurseries, Ms. Franklyn noted that the open day sessions "give them the opportunity to see what their child does in the nursery, what the nursery is all about and the work that they [the children] have done over the year".

"It is one thing to come to the door hand over your child and leave, but it is another thing to get an opportunity to come and talk with an aunty… They can talk to us, ask us questions, find out exactly how the child is getting along, and how they are socialising with other children," the day care supervisor affirmed.

The open days, which are being staged in celebration of Child Month, will continue next week at the Nightengale Day Nursery, Black Rock; Farm Day Nursery, Deacons Housing Area; Grazettes Day Nursery, Grazettes Housing Area; and Madame Ifill Day Nursery, St. Matthias, Christ Church.

Parents and relatives of the children, and the general public, may visit the nurseries from 10:00 a.m. to noon and again from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., each day.
