Parish Independence Committees (PIC) and community groups across the island will this month be staging several events, in observance of Barbados’ 44th year of Independence.

First off is the St. Peter PIC. The group will host a bus ride from St. Peter to King George the V Memorial Park in St. Philip, tomorrow, Tuesday, November 9. Residents of Speightstown and surrounding districts are asked to note that the bus will be making its first pick up from the Speightstown Esplanade at 9:30 a.m., and the second one from the Bath Bar in Mile-and-a-Quarter at 10:00 a.m., before heading to St. Philip.

The St. Peter PIC will again take centre stage on Wednesday, November 10, when it hosts "A Musical Night" at the Speightstown Explanade beginning at 7:00 p.m. The event will feature the Royal Barbados Police Force Band, the Coleridge and Parry School Jazz Band, as well as other talented groups and individuals from within the community.

On Friday, November 12, residents of St. Peter will have an opportunity to feast on good-old-bajan food when the St. Peter PIC stages an "Old Time Cook Out" at the Bethany Church Car Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cou-cou and okra slosh, pulp eddoes, cornmeal pap, rice tea and cornmeal bakes will be among the dishes planned.

it will be back-in-time of another kind, on Saturday, November 13, when the St. Peter PIC hosts an "Old Time Movie Night" on the Indian Ground Playing Field, beginning at 7:00 p.m.?? Both the young and the young-at-heart are invited to come out and enjoy the night, which will be reminiscent of the Mobile Cinema.

Two communities in the north will also be hosting events on Saturday evening.?? Over in St. Lucy, residents are invited to participate in a "Bajan Evening" slated to be held at the St. Lucy Parish Church car park, beginning at 5:00 p.m.?? Residents of Weston in St. James, meanwhile, will be hosting a "Tribute to Carew" at the Weston Community Centre from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Details on additional events to be staged by various groups will be provided in the near future.??cgaskin@barbados.gov.bb
