The best of local talent will be on stage over the next two weekends, as four Parish Independence Committees (PIC’s) host talent shows at venues across the island.

The activities kick off this weekend in St. John, with their event being held at the Gall Hill Community Centre, Gall Hill, St. John, at 5:30 p.m. St. Peter’s presentation, entitled "Diamonds from De Rock", will take place at the Coleridge and Parry School, Ashton Hall, St. Peter, at the same time.

On the following day, Sunday, July 12, it will be the turn of St. Michael, whose talent show comes off at the St. Gabriel’s Primary School, Henry’s Lane, Collymore Rock, St. Michael, at 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, July 18, the Christ Church Parish Independence Committee will host their event at the Foundation School, Church Hill, Christ Church, at 5:00 p.m.

The shows seek to unearth and showcase talent from within the various communities, and select persons to go forward to represent their parish at the zonal shows in September. Successful candidates in the zonal preliminaries will then have an opportunity to go on to the "Spirit of the Nation Show" in November.

There will be a variety of performances including dance, song, poetry and drama and residents are invited to come out and support the activities of the PIC’s.

Further information may be obtained by contacting the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, Bay Street, St. Michael, at 436-9660 or 427-6675.
